Consultations are available in 30 minute sessions and we suggest the following to ensure that you receive the maximum benefit from these consultations:
- Have what you want to know or what you want to say ready before you start.
- A simple greeting will do, save your time for the content.
- You may wish to discuss the result a of a test in further detail
- You may wish to ask for advice.
- You may wish to discuss further recommendation that may not have been mentioned in other reports or tests.
Online Consultation (30 minutes) $55
The differences in our personalities are often the cause of unhappiness in life and distress in relationships. We need to understand ourselves and also our parents, our teachers, our bosses, our employees, our neighbours and everyone who comes into our lives. When we understand people we can accept and like them.
Long ago, people were compared to the elements of the earth; fire, water, earth, air. People said, “He has a fiery personality, or he’s as weak as water, or she is a down to earth person or she’s all airy fairy.”
Today there are psychologists trying to sort people into categories. Of course no-one fits a category exactly as we are all different. Some have sorted up to 16 categories but we have found that people can’t easily use that complexity of information at the time they need it.
As a result, we use four categories, of which people are a blend of each category. Find out your basic type and your own blends.
Combined with the aptitude test this is an excellent basis for decision making about careers, further study and positions that would suit your child and make them happy.
Personality Test (ages 12 plus) $77
The test Aptitude measures the the inbuilt strengths that help a student become better at some things than others. We all have some relative strengths and some relative weaknesses.
The test will check how strong your child’s abilty is in a wide range of ways of thinking so that you can be confident in trying new learning. The report is a guide to the options you could try out in your life and where your child may need to do some more learning or get coaching.
Combined with the personality test this is an excellent basis for decision making about careers, further study and positions that would suit your child and make them happy.
Aptitude Test $77
Our teacher will show some reading material and ask questions about the text.
The questions will test the students understanding of how the English language works. Sometimes our teacher will ask you to tell an example of what you have talked about already to test knowledge.
Our teacher will be marking the answer sheet as the questions are discussed.
Being able to tell people what you know and being able to write what you know seem to be different skills.
If your child is able to speak to the teacher but not able to write these responses then we know that it is not lack of knowledge that is a problem but something to do with writing or arm message transmission.
Grammar Test $44
In the Spelling Test our teacher will will be speaking words for the student to spell correctly.
The student must listen carefully as the words are spoken. Our teacher will use the same word in a sentence and then repeat the word.
The student is then required to spell the word back to our teacher, who will write it the way it was spelt on the record sheet. If you have Skype Video then the child can write the word and show it to the camera so we can see it.
Spelling Test $44
Fluency is assessed at comparative age levels using sentences and paragraphs with direct speech and a variety of punctuation marks.
Our teacher will be checking the tone of voice, the speed of reading appropriate to the meaning, the volume and the expressivness of the reading. Older children may be expected to read poetry as well.
Our teacher will also ask comprehension questions to clarify understanding when a hesitation has been noticed.
Our teacher has a checklist and will tick off what your child has mastered. This information will be sent to you in the email report.
Fluency Test $44
Many reading tests have been devised. This one uses lists of words that become more difficult throughout the test. It does test comprehension as well.
Correct pronunciation is essential and our teacher will stop your child as soon as a level is reached that is considered “Not competent”
We have equated the levels to ages so that you will receive an age level. This is because children start school at different ages and may therefore be in different year levels at the same age. If you child is younger than the age level given then your child is an advanced reader. If your child is older than the test age shows, then they are behind expectations and you may wish to get help.
We want to give you the fairest and most careful results so that you have true information to act upon. Our teacher will tell you what errors the child is making at the “Not competent” level so that you can help your child at home if you wish, or give a tutor an exact list of what you require.
Reading (6-15) $44
The Mathematics tests are graded to suit school expectations for different year level competency. The tests were developed by a team of school principals and are not related to national or state expectations which vary. They are based on decades of experience of what works for children so you get a practical, meaningful result of mastered learning.
6-9 means children aged 6 to 9 years. Getting all the questions correct would mean the child is able to do everything expected to the end of 3 years of formal schooling.
This is the stage of:
- counting,
- additon,
- subtraction,
- multiplication,
- division,
- simple problem solving,
- simple fractions
- shape, time and some other measurements.
If your child is aged 9 years then make a decision about the level. If the child is good at maths then choose the age 9-12 level where a lot more is tested.
Age 9-12 assesses the work from about start of year 3 level ( 4th year of school) to the end of primary school. Age 12-15 covers the basics of the early years of secondary school, years 7-9.
